Probiotics for Fertility

While there are many facets to fertility problems there is emerging evidence that the microbiome in your gut is very important to your fertility. A recent study in The Journal of Endocrinology points to the relationship between dysbiosis, an imbalance of gut microbiome, negatively affecting egg quality as well as embryo development. This is because the balance or imbalance of good bacteria in your gut affects inflammation levels which in turn affects hormones and insulin reception/reactions at the ovaries and uterine level.
There are many things in our daily lives that cause dysbiosis: Environmental stressors, drinking alcohol, poor nutrition, many medications, especially antibiotics. While we can control some of these causes we can not control all of them. What we can do, in addition to cleaning up our diets and decreasing/avoiding alcohol is take a high quality probiotic.
